Siena is the provincial capital and the closest town to San Gimignano. A medieval town the size of a city, it is a must-see destination for anyone wishing to visit Tuscany. 
Moreover, it is world-famous for the Palio, an event that takes place twice a year, on 2 July and 16 August, and attracts tourists from all over the world every year. 
There is so much to see in Siena: within the 7 km-long city walls, in fact, an unsuspected amount of treasures are concentrated, such as the Duomo, the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia in the splendid Piazza del Campo, but also several museums and churches that preserve priceless works of art.
